Meet the NextGen DLB Organizing team

About US

Hi, nice to meet you! This is us:

Athina Grigoriou

Athina is a PhD student in Dr David Koss’s lab at the University of Dundee. her research aims to elucidate the role of DNA damage and impaired DNA damage response mechanisms in the pathogenesis of synucleinopathies, particularly DLB, with comparative insights into AD. Athina i delighted to have joined the NextGen Organisation committee and looks forward to connecting with researchers worldwide to learn more about their work. She is especially keen to help early career researchers share their work and feel more connected within the growing DLB research community.

Elizabeth McKiernan

Elizabeth (Lizz) is a Clinical Research Associate in Professor John O’Brien’s Old Age Psychiatry group at the University of Cambridge. Her work uses neuroimaging to explore structural and functional changes in DLB and Alzheimer’s disease, with particular expertise in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at high and ultra-high field strengths. She recently joined the NextGen DLB organising committee and is excited to help other early career researchers share their work and build local and global connections within the DLB research community.

Elie Matar

Elie is an Australian-trained neurologist and early career researcher based at the University of Sydney, Australia. His research interests include the phenomenology, pathophysiology and progression of symptoms of synuclein-based diseases. His vision is to unveil novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets and translate these into clinical practice to help the lives of patients and caregivers suffering from Lewy body dementia.

Annegret Habich

After studying neurobiology in Germany and Switzerland, Annegret (Greta) is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Her research revolves around neural and cognitive networks in ageing and neurodegenerative disorders, e.g. dementia with Lewy bodies. She is particularly interested in brain network features that reflect psychopathological traits of individual patients but also seeks to identify transdiagnostic features connecting different patient groups.

ALUMNI

Simon Lewis Founder of NextGen DLB

Simon Lewis is Professor of Cognitive Neurology at Macquarie University, Sydney and an NHMRC Leadership Fellow.  He is the Director of the Parkinson’s Disease Research Clinic and heads the NSW Movement Disorders Brain Donor program.  He has published over 300 peer review papers, 2 books and 8 book chapters and has attracted over $10 Million in funding from various sources including the NHMRC, ARC and Michael J Fox Foundation to support his research interests targeting quality of life in neurodegenerative diseases.
